Day 129: Finally Awake (2/29)

It doesn't look like much but he's awake and asking to play trains. It didn't last very long but he isn't sleeping all day and he wants to play.

My G-man is making a comeback!

Day 128: At The Beach (2/28)

For Valentine's day, Rennie gave me a tanning package. I haven't tanned since college and I found that I missed it. I really enjoy it and I understand some of the disadvantages to tanning but I figured I don't tan every day for years but just enough to look nice in summer clothes. It's nice to not have anything to do for 20 minutes as I lay in the bed. :)

Day 127: Sick, Sick Boy (2/27)

On Sunday, we took Gavin to Urgent Care and found out that he has the flu. He has barely moved for the last three days. It's horrible how sick he is and how different he acts while he is sick. I miss my baby!! This sick baby isn't my normal Gavin. Today he slept most of the day and it's scary that he isn't active and moving around. I almost went back to the doctor because it seemed as if this will never end but he said the flu is just running it course.

I just want my Gavin back!!

Day 126: We Live Orange (2/26)

Most people who read my blog are friends with me on Facebook. So these pictures come as no surprise.

Around November of last year, Rennie and I bought and old school bus with the intention of turning it into a tailgating bus. We are moving right along. All the seats are out, the windows are covered and the painting on the inside is complete. We have also laid the carpet in the bus.

Our next steps would be to add benches on each side to the wheel wells, and then after the wheels we will add shelving and then bunk beds. We are going to do some stenciling on the inside and we have to paint the outside. We also want to add a deck on to the back and on top of the bus. It's a lot of work and we enjoy it. It will also act as an RV for our family and will be fun to take on trips!

Go POKES!

Day 125: Book Heaven (2/25)

Today was my first adventure with the Metropolitan Library "Friends of the Library" annual book sale. I LOVE it but was sadly unprepared! I didn't have a bag or something to carry all the books that I wanted. The expo center at the state fair had rows and rows of book just like the two shown above. They were separated into genres and then hard cover or paperback. The paperbacks where only $0.50 and the hardbacks were $1. A-MAZ-ING! I bought 12 good books for $6.50. Those are the books in the top right of the picture box. Next year I will be more prepared and bring a bag or two...

PS - like my new picture app?? I will be using it a lot more in the future. It's really handy to show some of the same pictures without taking up so much room. :)

Day 124: Sunglasses (2/24)

Gavin hates the sun in his eyes. {He must get that from his mom!} So we decided to try sunglasses to see if that would work. He kept them on pretty well and enjoyed looking into the sun and saying "Gavin eyes, no hurt!" Love this boy and his way of talking!

Day 123: Nail Art (2/23)

A while back my mom gave me all her "old" nail polish that has been in the house and no one uses. I love doing my own nails and this was a design that I enjoyed.

Day 122: The Little Things In Life (2/22)

This week Rennie talked me into throwing ALL my socks away and buying two new packs. I also went bra shopping, it's sad I can't remember the last time I bought a bra. {Don't judge!} So after all these new purchases I cleaned out my draws and organized them.

Like I said, it's the little things in life that make me happy. :)

Day 120: Next Step (2/20)

If you're not into long, personal stories then this post is probably not for you.  Just scroll on down to the next entry. :)

As some of you have noticed {or haven't} there has been no announcement made of a new arrival to the Nickell family. I posted some time back {in November} about our struggles to conceive.

Apparently what we have been doing hasn't worked. {Pardon my sarcasm!} So we have taken the next step and have become more aggressive in trying to conceive; which is another way to say more expensive! We have ventured into IUI {intrauterine insemination.} Basically, Rennie made a, ahem, deposit at a clinic where they concentrated his boys and then injected them high into my parts at the right time. If you want to read a more scientific approach, be my guest.

To do this took a lot of prep and lots of planning. It's honestly exhausting. In one week, I had to be at the doctor FOUR times. That's the hardest part; luckily I was blessed with a principal that has four children and is very, very understanding.

I am also BLESSED to have such wonderful friends at my school. Without a doubt, my mom knows every single detail of what we go through on a daily bases. However, she is the only person who is kept informed of our struggles. I am sure that my dad knows but it's my mom that I talk too.

Other members of our family know that we are trying to conceive but for the most part it's not something that we are asked about. I think that people think we don't want to talk about it but the opposite is true. Talking about it helps us get through the days, weeks, months. It helps me personally de-stress about it all. I don't like to keep it all bottle up.

Enter the girls at work!!

They make me smile. :) They are moms and two of them are pregnant now. Talking with them is a life saver, they ask questions everyday and know exactly were I am in my cycle. Weird, I know but it helps.

The picture for today is my friend Angelica. My super life saver!

This month before we go through the IUI, we had to make sure that I was ovulating at the right time so we made sure I had the right amount of follicles {future eggs} and we "forced" my body into ovulation. I had to give myself a shot.

I understand that people do this everyday but I was nervous. I hate shots.

We Angelica got it done! Again my super life saver on steroids.

So tomorrow I head into ANOTHER doctor's appointment for the actual IUI with Rennie. We are told that we should take the next two days easy. I can do that!!

So here we will be in an agonizing two week wait to determine if the IUI was successful. Please think about us and send any prays our way.

We appreciate the support we have received and can't thank those of you enough for helping us through this time in our life.

Day 109: Gavin's First Bowl (2/19)

Tonight we took Gavin bowling for the first time. The best part of the night was the ramp that he used to bowl with it was perfect for him and he enjoyed it. At first he just stood at the ramp and pushed the ball down it but after a few times when he saw Rennie and I "run" and throw the ball he took a running start at the ball to push it down the ramp. Each time he pushed the ball he yelled "hi-yah." He cracks me up, sometimes I don't know where he comes up with these things.

Day 108: Babysitters!! (2/18)

Yesterday, Dana called me and asked if we could watch Rye and Cort Saturday. Luckly we didn't have any real big plans and we said sure. Dana and Jeff dropped the kids off Friday night and they stayed the night and then they were picked up Saturday night.

Rye and Gavin had so much fun playing together. They fight like sister and brother so much!

Shout out to Rennie: I had plans Friday night to go to the Thunder game and he had the kids by himself. When I got home they had baths and were all asleep!! Woot-Woot! Way to go, Rennie!!

I really enjoyed the day with Gavin, Rye and Cort. It was so much fun.

Day 107: Thunder Up! (2/17)

My friend Jennifer {we worked together at Jefferson} had tickets to the OKC Thunder game. She was so sweet to remember me and invited me to go with her! It was so much fun to go and just to catch up with Jen. I always enjoy events and the Thunder is so much fun to watch.

Thank you so much Jen!!

Day 106: Drawing a Circle (2/16)

Gavin knows what a circle is and how to draw it!

Proud Momma, right here!!

Day 105: Double Date Night (2/15)

Rennie's surprise for our Valentine dinner out was A-MAZ-ING! We headed out to Bricktown and Rennie wouldn't tell me where we were going and ended up early so we parked and headed into Bass Pro Shop. As we were leaving to walk to our destination, the free trolley arrived, we hoped on and Rennie secretly   told the driver which stop we wanted. It was the MELTING POT! I love the Melting Pot and it takes a lot to get Rennie to go there. One because the food is different and two it's so dang expensive.

That wasn't my only surprise! We were meeting our friends for a double date night out. Natalie and Cheyenne met us and we had a wonderfully cozy {and exceptionally good} dinner! It was a great way to spend Valentines day.

Day 104: Happy Valentine's Day (2/14)

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Being the technology person that I am, this is the picture that I sent to all my family for Valentine's Day. I always enjoy a good text picture and so I thought I would share the joy!

Rennie and I have a tradition of going out to a nice dinner sometime during the week of Valentine's Day. We rarely go out on Valentine's Day because we don't want to fit the stinkin' crowds who think its a must to go out on the actually day. :) So we have planned to head out to dinner tomorrow night, however I have no idea where we are going because Rennie is keeping it a surprise. Fun and aggravating at the same time.

When I got into my car this morning the small box of chocolates where waiting on me with a wonderfully written card.  I like declarations of love and I found this on Facebook on my way home today. Silly I know but it was sweet and made my day even better.

I cannot wait to see what Rennie has up his sleeve for dinner tomorrow!!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Valentine's day and have love in their life.

Day 103: Stocking the Fish Tank (2/13)

Every once and a while we head to PetSmart {one of my Facebook friends called it the local zoo and I liked that!} and have some fun looking at all the animals and petting whatever poor dog crosses Gavin's path.

Today we actually had to buy something. We needed a new filter for our fish tank and some new algae eaters {as ours have died.}

PetSmart was having a sale on small fish tank decor so I gave Gavin a choice between a few items. Here is how our conversation went:

Me: "Gavin, which one do you want to put in our fish tank? A helicopter or a ball?"
Gavin: "Ummm, ball and helicopter."
Me: "OK but you can only have one. Which one?"
Gavin: "Both."
Me: "No, pick only the ball or the helicopter." {As I hold up each item as I say it's name.}
Gavin: {Reaching for both.} "Ball..... helicopter."
Me: "Yes, that's what they are. Which one do you want to take home?'
Gavin: {Reaching for ball} "Helicopter!" {I think he was trying to confuse me and get both!}
Me: "No, Gavin, we can only take ONE home to our fish. Do you want to take the ball or the helicopter to put in the fish tank?"
Gavin: {finally reaching for} "The helicopter!"
Me: "Yea! Good choice!"

After walking around the store and Gavin desperately holding on to his helicopter we get in line to check out.  We are next in line and Gavin says, "No, Mommy, no helicopter. Gavin want the ball!" {He likes to talk in third person...}

Dang, so close!!

So we go back to the aisle and Gavin on his own puts down his helicopter and picks out his beach ball. I rush to the line and check out before he can change his mind. {I think I would of ended up buying both at this point!} He held that beach ball all the way home and ran to Rennie when we got home and they put it into his fish tank. He was so proud! :)

Day 101: Saturday Night (2/11)

What a way to end a Saturday night...

...a little wine and an episode of 48 Hours Mystery.

It's nice when my boys head to bed a little early and I have the remote and my DVR to myself. :)

Day 100: Playing Pretend (2/10)

How exciting to reach 100 days!!

So this night Gavin came out of his room with this stick in his mouth and barking like a doggie. He pretended to be a dog for a while and even wanted Rennie to throw the stick so he could fetch it. It was so funny. Sometimes I don't know where he learns to do these things. Gavin amazes me everyday.

I included the video I took of him "fetching" his stick! So cute. :)

Day 99: Carlos (2/9)

I guess it was too cold to lay on the on the ground so my fat hugh dog Carlos stuffed himself into the food bowl!

Day 98: New Author (2/8)

I found this new author: Jen Lancaster on the Metropolitan Library suggestions. One of the best things I ever found was the FREE ebooks on the OKC Public Library. I can check-out books for two weeks without leaving my couch! It has been a life changer!

Day 96: Watching TV (2/6)

The only cool way to watch WWE wrestling! Of course then it's easy access to the punching bag and his wrestling partner Spiderman.

Day 95: Super Bowl Sunday (2/5)

Of course I spent the entire day with family and didn't pull out my phone once {honestly I found it in the car when we were leaving!}

So I cheated!

I got online and found some pictures of some key plays in the game that won it for the NY Giants. It was a great game. I always love close games and this Super Bowl came down to the last couple of plays.

Madonna was the half time show and I really enjoyed it. The graphics were amazing! I enjoyed the day and am upset that I didn't take pictures.

WHAT WAS I THINKING?!

Day 94: Team Taylor (2/4)

One of our cousins, Taylor Anderson is having heart surgery this week and we were sent bracelets to wear to support her.  Everyone who received a bracelet took a picture and posted it on her wall. It's such a great way to "be there" when they live in California. I am amazed every day the things that can be done online. Family and friends are able to stay in touch and give support with just a few key strokes.

We are thinking of you Taylor and family.

Go TEAM TAYLOR!

Day 93: Thunder Bus (2/3)

I am amazed and happy every day that I know Gavin will be spending the day with Michelle and Olivia. Gavin loves going to "Chelle" and "Libby's" house and he always has something to say about it when he is picked up. I am overjoyed that I receive pictures like this one from Michelle during the day. It means that Gavin is out and about and enjoying himself. It warms my heart that Gavin {as well as Rennie and I} have such wonderful people and our lives and thank you never seems like enough.

Day 92: Family on a Diet (2/2)

GIRL SCOUT COOKIES!!

Who doesn't love them?!

You would never know that our family is on a calorie counting diet with the amount of cookies we brought into our house. Rennie hauled home the bottom four boxes and I laughed!

Emily- "You too? I bought two boxes"
Rennie- "Really? Why?"
Emily- "I was helping the girls out at school."
Rennie- "Baby, we really need to talk about these things."

Now we have six boxes of cookies in our house...

Day 91: Air Hockey (2/1)

Gavin played his first game of air hockey today. I was surprised at how well he did and how many times he was able to hit the moving puck.

The second picture is how he would laugh with me when he scored against Daddy!

It's so fun to watch him grow! He is such a joy everyday and I couldn't imagine our lives without him.
